Petersburg Generals

The Generals burst onto the Coastal Plain League in 2000 and captured the league championship in their inaugural season, playing home dates at the Petersburg Sports Complex. [1][2][3]

They stayed competitive through the decade, taking division titles in 2000 and 2003 and reaching the postseason again with a 2002 wild-card berth. [1][2]

Operations wound down after the 2016 summer, and the franchise did not take the field in 2017, remaining inactive since. [1]

The Generals name also reaches back to Petersburg’s postwar minor-league days, including a 1949 Virginia League entry and the Colonial Heights–Petersburg Generals noted in 1951. [4]
