Dorset Police has introduced a prevention-focused initiative employing martial arts to address knife crime. Through the “Skills 4 Safer Streets” programme, the force offers Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions paired with educational outreach on the dangers and consequences of carrying knives. The most recent event took place at Twynham School in Christchurch on March 24, targeting Year 9 and Year 10 students. Detective Superintendent Andy Bell, Dorset Police’s knife crime lead, highlighted the importance of such preventative work in tackling knife-related offences. The initiative reflects a broader trend of integrating martial arts training into community safety programmes across the UK.
