City SC Carlsbad’s U14 Gold boys team secured the Southern California State Cup title on February 28 at the Silverlakes Sports Complex in Norco, defeating the Irvine Slammers 2‑1 in the final. Evan Escobedo opened scoring with a long‑range strike assisted by Peter Allen. The Slammers equalized in the second half, but Caleb Lion delivered the winning goal from a corner with 15 minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Yusuf Tabet played a key role in the run to the title, saving three penalties during the semi‑final shootout. The victory marks the first State Cup triumph for a boys’ team from the club in nearly a decade. The club Carlsbaddies can draw regional inspiration from this success in youth soccer.
