Leisure Hour Golf Club

Portland city officials have designated August 16–18, 2024, as the Leisure Hour Golf Club 80th Anniversary Scholarship Weekend. The proclamation, adopted during an August 14 city council meeting, commemorated the club’s founding in 1944 as the oldest African American golf club west of the Mississippi River. It highlighted Leisure Hour Golf Club’s enduring mission to promote minority representation in public golf, support youth through its non‑profit junior golf program, and provide scholarship opportunities for academic and lifelong success. The club remains active in hosting tournaments across the Portland metro and Southwest Washington regions. The designation reflects the city’s recognition of the club’s historic and ongoing civic contributions.
