On a recent Thursday in Salado, a helicopter was deployed to dry out Salado ISD’s baseball and softball fields ahead of a scheduled game against Llano. The fields, saturated from recent storms, required aerial assistance to ensure playable conditions. Salado’s superintendent, Michael Novotny, noted that conversion to turf would have alleviated the drainage delay, a concern addressed in an upcoming bond election held on May 5, aimed at upgrading to turf playing surfaces. The Salado Eagles were set to face Llano that evening at 7 p.m., following the emergency measure.
