Markham RFC

The Welsh Rugby Union has initiated a consultation on a proposed realignment of regional professional rugby, with discussions considering a reduction from the current four regions to three or two by the 2027–28 season. The review, encompassing the Scarlets, Ospreys, Cardiff Rugby, and Dragons, aims to bolster investment in player development and infrastructure. The WRU outlined its intent to enhance financial sustainability and improve competitive outcomes through this restructuring. The proposal would also include a new national centre to advance coaching and high-performance pathways. The club’s grassroots partners, including community teams such as Markham RFC, would be indirectly affected by changes at the regional level, as the broader ecosystem adjusts to support elite rugby under a revised framework.
