A recent incident has affected the lighting infrastructure at key sporting venues in the Baw Baw region. Thieves removed copper wiring from lighting systems at Ellinbank Recreation Reserve and Bellbird Park Recreation Reserve in Drouin, disrupting netball and oval lighting. Damage costs at Bellbird Park are estimated at approximately AUD 50,000, covered by insurance, while the Ellinbank site remains under assessment. Baw Baw Shire officials have urged club operators to inspect lighting and report any anomalies to ensure readiness for Round One, scheduled for April 11. Baw Baw’s sporting community is awaiting restoration of full functionality to maintain safe training and competition conditions.
